The town of Randolph was named afterPeyton Randolph, who was the First President of Continental Congress.
Originally Randolph was part of Braintree, as was, Quincy and Holbrook. Randolph became incorporated in 1793.
Randolph was primarily farm country back in the early years. Some of the farmers started making boots to supplement their income, and Randolph became well known for its boots, and by 1850 was known as one the leading boot producers in the world.
Today Randolph is a mix of residential housing and industrial. It is conveniently located at routes 95/128 and route 24, making for an easy commute.
Randolph MA is where the Freat American Smoke Out Started back in 1971. When a Guidance Counselor was talking with students about college. The Guidance Counselor told the students he couls send them all to college if he had a nickle for evry butt he saw on the ground, the idea came up. The first smoke out was held in Randolph in 1972 raising $4500 for a college funf. The following year, they raised $5000. Soon the Great American Smoke Out took off across the country as other states saw how successful it was.
